Las Trancas

If you head east from Chillan an hour up into the mountains, Las Trancas is the valley at the end of the road right before the ski area Termas de Chillan. The ski area has the longest run in South America, Tres Marias, spanning 19 km. The lifts are slow but they go up pretty high and with the wide open landscape and very few trees you have access to a lot of terrain from the top.

Due to spring/summer conditions, we spent more time hiking than riding. Here are some of the pics.

If anyone visits the area we recommend MI Lodge, an awesome little spot owned by an adorable French family. Also be sure to hike into the Shangrila Valley and visit the refugio.
