Huerquehue and El Cañi

While in Pucon we went on several hikes. Sanutario El Cañi is a sanctuary about 20 minutes outside of Pucon filled with Monkey Puzzle (Auracaria araucana) trees. It's a straight 2 hours hike up to a hidden lake. About half way you encounter a hut, complete with fire pit and sleeping platforms for overnight stays in the sanctuary. Huerquehue is a much larger park about an hour outside of Pucon. Volcan Villarrica

If you decide to hike Volcan Villarrica make sure to bring your board/skis! Most people who make the 9,431 ft ascent slide down on sleds, but riding down was absolutely the highlight of our visit to Pucon! It was awesome. There is nothing like climbing up ice and snow for 5 hours to look into a smoking volcanic crater and then ride down on untouched snow.
